    This position is located in the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA or Ginnie Mae), in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Office of the Controller, Financial Reporting Division.

    Ginnie Mae is a wholly owned government corporation created to help expand homeownership opportunities for low and moderate-income Americans, by linking global capital markets to the nation’s housing market.

    The Office of the Controller is responsible for classifying, summarizing, analyzing, and reporting accounting and budgetary transactions for all of Ginnie Mae’s activities.

    As an accountant, you will:
    -Prepare and review the financial statements and accounting reports of the Association. Responds to and resolves audit findings and recommendations pertaining to the general ledger functions brought up by the General Accounting Office (GAO), the Office of Inspector General (OIG), HUD's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Ginnie Mae internal control reviews
    -Identify changes to financial systems and procedures which need to be documented and/or which impact existing handbooks and guidelines. Develops procedures that document each change.
    -Consult with and advise the Director, Financial Reporting Division on the development of policies, practices, and procedures relating to the use of operating data in exercising accounting and financial controls and in promoting greater efficiencies in these areas. As programs are changed or modified, the incumbent analyzes such changes to determine if they will have any impact on systems in place in the Controller's Office.

    Occasional travel - up to 1 to 5 nights per month
