About the Agency

The Applied Engineering Technology Directorate (AETD), Mechanical Systems Division, Mechanical Engineering Branch (Code 543) is seeking an experienced engineer to serve as a Mechanical Lead of a structures system for a major in-house or out-of-house project. You will provide leadership and technical oversight of the mechanical systems development of primary structure supporting mechanisms, sensitive optics, sensors, and associated electronics and harnessing. You will provide leadership of the spacecraft to payload system interfaces, and the payload hardware to primary structure interfaces.

Duties

As an Aerospace Engineer specializing in Flight Structures, you will be responsible for managing a large team of experienced engineers and designers and directing the design, development, fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of space flight structures from concept through launch and mission execution. You will provide senior mechanical systems design and engineering leadership for the development of space flight metallic and composite structures, mechanisms, and deployment systems. You will provide leadership in the areas of mechanical design and integration and testing. You will also provide coordination between the instrument providers and spacecraft interface and between the spacecraft provider and launch vehicle interface. You will provide technical direction required to successfully qualify all developed hardware for space flight. You will develop, fabricate, and test flight vehicle structures or their components and recommend optimum configurations, structural designs, materials, and techniques. You will provide expert mechanical systems advice and direction to contractor professionals in areas such as flight systems, including launch vehicle and spacecraft interfaces, and the transportation of payloads to the launch site and launch site activities.
