    Responsibilities

    Serves as an Aerospace Engineer (Avionics/Electrical Systems) with responsibility for certification of aircraft systems such as electrical power generation and distribution, communications systems, automatic flight controls, instruments, navigation systems, air data systems, avionics systems, lightning protection, high intensity radiated fields (HIRF) protection, electronic systems integration, system safety analysis, and airborne electronic hardware (AEH). Provides technical advice and oversight to applicants during certification projects required to show compliance with the federal aviation regulations. Manages multiple projects at once and ensures they are completed within established schedules. Implements Safety Management System (SMS) tools and processes to achieve safety objectives.

    Oversees Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) companies to determine their adherence to the regulations and their approved manuals. Participates in audits of the facility and completes required and necessary oversight of the organization. Participates on and leads Organization Management Teams (OMTs). Oversees Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) for technical and procedural adherence to the regulations.

    Investigates reports of maintenance and service problems; conducts technical evaluations of such reports and examines defective equipment if needed. Advises the manufacturer and/or operator of certification deficiencies.

    Prepares and presents issue papers for design features and concepts not addressed in policy and procedural guidance. Determines when all necessary investigations associated with projects have been satisfactorily completed and prepares the appropriate parts of the Type Inspection Authorizations (TIAs) which govern the subsequent manufacturing inspection and flight test requirements for those projects.

    Analyzes and evaluates technical data submitted by applicants for the design and installation of a variety of electrical systems. This data is accepted or rejected as being in compliance with certification criteria established for the design, change, or installation proposed.

    Performs other duties as assigned.
