The Applied Engineering and Technology Directorate (AETD), Software Engineering Division, Science Data Processing Branch (Code 587) is seeking for an experienced individual to design, develop, install, test, or evaluate data handling and computing systems for aerospace, aeronautical, space science and/or earth science vehicles, spacecraft or instruments, their support equipment or experiment systems (involving both the hardware and software) and data systems.

The duties described below are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
As a Computer Engineer, specializing in Data Systems, you will develop or direct the development of embedded applications involving state-of-the-art development tools and computing systems in areas that may be controversial and precedent-setting in nature, to meet specific mission requirements. The projects significantly affect agency or government programs. You will serve as a technical expert. Integrate technical and operational requirements. Evaluate design requirements and limitations of an uncertain nature, under which systems and/or equipment must operate. Adapt methodologies and technologies as needed for problem resolution. Perform data acquisition, reduction, and computation to meet end-to-end system needs. Use standard, unconventional, or original approaches to design, develop, and modify science data processing systems and applications. Prepare and present technical and status briefings.
You will design or direct the development of controversial or leading-edge computer science technology, equipment, systems, mathematical algorithms, or computer software to meet specific mission or program requirements. Plan and coordinate assignments with other agencies and contractors to assure full integration of technical and operational requirements. Evaluate requirements and limitations of an uncertain nature, under which systems and/or equipment must operate.
You will serve as a data systems technical specialist in the test, checkout, and readiness of flight, ground, or data systems or equipment that involve new concepts and new and varied requirement problems. Uses standard, unconventional, or original approaches to test science data processing systems and applications. Acts as a technical specialist on the procedures, methods, and techniques used for checkout, acceptance testing, and preparation of flight, ground, or data systems software or hardware.
