    The Director, Technical Excellence is responsible for providing the leadership and management of the most advanced Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) instructional products supporting NASA's unique missions and aerospace programs and projects in the field.

    This position reports to the Director, NASA Safety Center. The NASA Safety Center is responsible for strengthening Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) capabilities and enabling more uniform and effective Agency-wide integration of SMA support for the safe and successful execution of all NASA programs.

    The Director, Technical Excellence provides the leadership and management for the development, use and dissemination of the most advanced Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) instructional products supporting NASA's unique missions and aerospace program and projects in the field.

    The Director, Technical Excellence is responsible for advancing Agency-wide SMA technical curriculum ensuring contemporary and state-of-the-art information for classroom instruction; and the incumbent oversees the development and implementation of products supporting Agency SMA disciplines and leads in the design and assessment of newly-emerging teaching tools and strategies, for example, video, computer software, multimedia systems and virtual reality.

    The Director, Technical Excellence supervises the performance of work related to exploring and evaluating intellectual, academic, and other resources which can be harnessed to develop solutions to critical problems or defined education of development gaps in the SMA curriculum or career development programs. The incumbent is responsible for integrating the efforts of curriculum development staff and Technical Discipline Leads throughout the Agency to deliver technically excellent education and training programs for the SMA disciplines.

    Additionally, the Director, Technical Excellence provides NASA Safety Center representation to top NASA management, other Government agencies, industry, universities and the general public; and the incumbent is responsible for the managerial tasks in the programmatic and organization areas and human resources management and equal opportunity and diversity in the workplace, as well as creating an atmosphere of safety consciousness within the workplace and ensures safe work practices.
