Major Duties:
GS 7: Provides expertise in evidence matters and provides
authoritative assistance to the field office and other FBI, federal,
state and local law enforcement personnel regarding the legal
handling of evidence matters. Provides advice, guidance, and
training for the Special Agents and support staff on various aspects
of evidence processing and procedures including search, protocol,
evidence packaging, and proper completion of paperwork. Retrieves,
releases and secures the return of evidence to/from the ECR or other
approved storage locations. Initiates process for the disposition
of abandon property. Responsible for the security aspects of the
ECR including safe combinations and secure areas, and personal
traffic to and from ECR locations. Establishes automated history of
evidence using the Automated Case Support System, ensuring accuracy
and propriety of material seized to facilitate tracking and location
of evidence for investigative and court purposes.
GS 8: Provides advanced expertise in evidence matters and provides
authoritative assistance and advice to the field office and other
FBI, federal, state and local law enforcement personnel regarding
the legal handling of evidence matters. Provides extensive advice,
guidance, and training for the Special Agents and support staff on
all aspects of evidence processing and procedures incliding search,
protocol, evidence packaging, and proper completion of paperwork.
Responsible for the receipt, retention and disposition of evidence
for the field office. Retrieves, releases and secures the return of
evidence to/from the Evidence Control Room or other approved storage
locations. Establishes automated history of evidence using the
Automated Case Support System ensuring accuracy and propriety of all
material seized to facilitate tracking and location of evidence for
investigative and court purposes.
Qualifications:
Qualifications for the GS 7 level: Applicant must have one year of
specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS 6 level. SE
includes responsible work associated with efforts to inventory,
catalog, properly store, surplus and package a variety of materials.
Qualifications for the GS 8: Applicant must have one year of SE
equivalent to the GS-7 level. SE includes responsible work
associated with efforts to inventory, catalog, properly store,
surplus and package a variety of materials. In addition, must
possess experience in handling, storing, wrapping, packaging, and
shipping all types of evidence and hazardous materials.
Education may not be substituted for SE at these levels.
Occasional travel may be required.
Work requires considerable physical exertion such
as walking, standing, stooping, reaching and the recurrent lifting
of packages and/or objects that weigh in excess of fifty pounds.
May be placed in a hazardous situation when handling potentially
dangerous materials, such as explosive, poisonous, corrosive, highly
combustible, contaminated with infectious materials, that require
various safety precautions, such as protective clothing and
equipment such as safety glasses, gloves and masks.
