    This position is located in the United States Mint at the San Francisco, CA field site in the Manufacturing Division. The General Engineer directs project management activities with responsibility for directing project management and related execution activities involved with the acquisition, design, development of specifications and standards, equipment layout, planning and installation, commissioning, training, life-cycle engineering and integration (operation, maintenance, upgrade/ retrofit, decommission/replacement), quality, testing and evaluation, logistics and procurement aspects for tooling, components, equipment and systems of major size and complexity unique to the largest, fully integrated manufacturing plant of the United States Mint.

    Responsibilities

    As General Engineer, you will:

    • Be responsible for the planning, development, direction, execution, and implementation of complex manufacturing and engineering processes, methods, standardization and procedures on plant systems. These systems include state-of-the-art fully-integrated production systems, autonomously guided robotic vehicles, 4-axis and 6-axis robotic systems, both one-of-a-kind custom vision systems as well as mastery of off-the-shelf third party vendor vision systems, mastery of computer numerical control machining equipment and mastery of the related software suites for static and dynamic solid modeling, two dimensional layout computer aided design (CAD) software packages, computer aided manufacturing (CAM), and configuration control management (CCM) software packages; with a specific focus on Minting equipment and tooling (presses, upsetters, edge-lettering, blanking machines), Minting surface finish equipment (lacquer, re-finish, polish, washing), Minting material handling/ storage equipment conveyors: belt-driven/ chain-driven, robotics, automated coil/ blank handling units), Minting annealing equipment (furnaces, atmospheric generators), Minting packaging equipment(robotic/ automated).
    • Serve as multi-production Division technical expert in filling in any technical/ informational/ project gaps by utilizing expert knowledge of manufacturing and packaging systems and program management techniques; the resolution of which are typically of such breadth that they require planning and developing several phases, each involving the development or origination of some completely new feature(s). This includes responsibility for devising new techniques and approaches that significantly influence fundamental operations and procedures; and developing and designing new practical and theoretical processes, instrumentation, equipment, and procedures for developing, testing, and solving problems related to production manufacturing, packaging, and delivery operations.
    • Prepare requirements for new production equipment additions and internal changes to production facilities. Direct and work with architects and engineers on designs of new structures, additions, and modifications. Assure that improvements of buildings and associated equipment meet all applicable state, local, OSHA, EPA, and conservation requirements.
    • Serve as the agent in the administration of policies, regulations, and engineering criteria as established by the Division Chief, Lead Electro-Mechanical Engineer and Headquarters Engineers; and provide such information locally to field sites. All work is lead by the Lead Electro-Mechanical Engineer and performed without technical supervision from the immediate supervisor.
