This position is located within Nursing Service at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. The VA Medical Center is located in the heart of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle on 175 acres in historic Berkeley County. The Medical Center offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health, and rehabilitation medicine. Patient Care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers who follow the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient. The Medical Center has a service area of nearly 130,000 veterans in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

The Medical Center operates seven VA-staffed Outpatient Clinics in Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Frederick, Maryland, Stephens City and Harrisonburg, Virginia and Franklin and Petersburg, West Virginia. Primary Care and Mental Health care are provided at these Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Duties will include but are not limited to providing supportive nursing care to patients, ranging from adults to geriatrics, and must possess the necessary skills to carry out the most complex practical nursing care assignments.This includes assignments for selected acute care, long-term care, ambulatory care or psychiatric patients requiring skilled nursing care.The incumbent is responsible for providing the highest level of nursing care possible in accordance with the standards of practice established for the clinical area of assignment.Manages and delivers nursing care for complex patient situations under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Provider.Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) taking vital signs,giving medications and treatments as prescribed, communicating preventive health care issues to patients, and accessing a variety of computerized clinical application programs, including documenting patient information in the computerized medical record.
