    Summary

    Responsibilities

    The Material Handler serves in a non-automated warehouse. Duties may include but are not limited to:
    • · Receives, checks, stores, issues, unpacks, shelves and distributes all types of supplies and material, including equipment received in the warehouse of the John J. Pershing VAMC;
    • · Operates various material handling equipment including manual and hydraulic pallet jacks, forklift, etc. for moving and/or making deliveries to the medical center;
    • · Performs all functions required in receiving and checking in shipments from vendors and other sources;· Responsible for shelving goods received in Logistics;
    • · Organizes, arranges, consolidates, relocates and properly stores, stacks and sorts stock in established locations;
    • · Assists with scrap, sales, equipment, un-boxing, bar-coding and delivering;
    • · Performs the full range of material handling functions in the warehouse;
    • · Responsible for storage and space utilization in the warehouse;
    • · Validates accuracy of receipt for inventory items;
    • · Verifies bills of lading, identifies and reports discrepancies;
    • · Prepares shipping and inventory documents with required data for automated inventory systems;
    • · Uses material handling equipment to make deliveries;
    • Picks up excess equipment and furniture items as required;
    • Uses barcode scanners to load computerized inventory data; and
    • Ensures proper height, weight and other load and storage requirements are met.
