About the Position:

Position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Department of Radiology producing diagnostic images by employing high frequency ultrasound equipment for patients seen within the department.

Duties

  • Review consultation requests from primary care providers to determine type of ultrasound examination for patient.
  • Perform complex ultrasound examination to aid in the treatment of disease/injury.
  • Adjust equipment (i.e. diagnostic ultrasound and ancillary) for proposed scan to ensure highest quality data possible.
  • Identify clinically significant findings of an ultrasound examination, such as; the nature, significance, or appearance of pathology and/or disease.
  • Distinguish medical significant aspects from sonograms in order to recognize the need for additional tests.
  • Monitor patient condition during exam to detect any unusual and/or life threatening changes.
  • Explain procedures to patients in order to reduce fears.
  • Position patients to adapt study on patients who are unable to be optimally positioned.
  • Observe patient responses (i.e. instructions, movement, touch, etc) during ultrasound examination.
  • Provide on-the-job ultrasound training to educate new employees and formal classroom lectures to provide information on ultrasounds to residents.
  • Participate in research projects dealing with the best way to perform tests in order to achieve accurate results.
  • Review consultation requests from primary care providers to determine type of ultrasound examination for patient.
