    The Birmingham VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for one Medical Record Technician Coder Auditor to work within our Business Management Service Line.

    This incumbent is responsible for providing ongoing training and education to providers on electronic encounter forms, progress note documentation requirements, workload capture, VERA, SAIL, vesting versus non-vesting, Evaluation and Management, and the problem list.

    Incumbent is responsible for performing data validation/quality improvement activities and audits to ensure accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPC, and CPT-4 codes and modifiers. He/she also performs quality reviews on the outpatient coders for performance and to ensure the accuracy of the VA Birmingham database. Any trends that are identified are discussed with the Coding Coordinator and the HIM Manager for appropriate action and/or training.

    This incumbent is assigning, planning and evaluating the outpatient coder work. Ensures open line of communications to discuss factors affecting morale and problem solving. Performance must demonstrate the ability to adjust to change or work pressure in a pleasant manner, handle differences of opinion in a businesslike fashion, follow instructions conscientiously, and to function as a team member, helping the group effort where possible. The incumbent exercises diplomacy, sound judgment, and resourcefulness in contacts with others in implementing policies and procedures.

    This position requires the candidate to perform their duties and responsibilities throughout the Birmingham VA Medical Center and 8 Community Based Outreach Clinics, which will require occasional travel.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 430 PM
