This Medical Supply Technician position is located at the Milo C. Huemphner Outpatient Clinic (MCHOPC) in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a complex ambulatory outpatient clinic and a satellite facility of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. The Sterile Processing program of the MCH OPC includes support of the sterile supply item needs at the Community Based Outpatient clinics (CBOCs) located in Appleton, and Cleveland, WI. The primary purpose of the position is to provide clinics, ambulatory procedure rooms, and operating rooms with medical supplies, instruments, sets, and equipment.
-Cleans, packages, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes supply items; operates an ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer/disinfector, dryer, cart washer, scope washer, steam sterilizers, and gas plasma sterilizers.
-Collects contaminated supplies and portable equipment from wards, operating rooms, laboratories and clinics of the hospital.
-Receives, disassembles and inspects for damage reusable medical supplies, instruments and equipment.
-Determines correct method for pre-sterilizing.
-Removes soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other gross contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing and use of appropriate decontamination and disinfection equipment and solutions.
-Reassembles medical equipment, including complex surgical equipment; assembles, wraps, dates, initials and labels trays.
-Assembles and stocks all equipment for stations and case carts.
-Restocks supply closest and carts located in the operating rooms, clinics and storerooms (inventoried daily and replenished).
-Advises medical personnel on the proper use of the equipment.
-Provides training and orientation to medical personnel on sterile supply techniques and procedures.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE: Primary Shift 9:00 am - 5:30pm.  May include variable hours between 6:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday (8 hour shifts), and possible weekends..

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
