Job Summary:
The incumbent will develop, organize, implement and evaluate a therapeutic recreation program to provide treatment in various areas of the medical center. The therapist evaluates the history, interest and aptitude of the patient in order to develop an appropriate individualized plan of rehabilitation.
Major Duties:
The incumbent will develop, organize, implement and evaluate a therapeutic recreation program to provide treatment in various areas of the medical center. The therapist evaluates the history, interest and aptitude of the patient in order to develop an appropriate individualized plan of rehabilitation. He/She assembles pre-evaluation data, interprets medical record information, reviews therapy prescriptions and conducts mental and physical evaluation of patient in order to develop an appropriate treatment plan. Determines measurable short and long term treatment goals for recreation therapy and utilizes specific modalities and techniques to increase patient’s skill in the utilization of leisure, daily living skills, physical function and cognition. The incumbent develops objectives of treatment and participates in a multi-disciplinary team to assess treatment outcomes and modify plans according to progress. He/She employs therapeutic objectives where the complexity will be base on the severity and multiple disabilities regularly encountered. The therapist records findings, observations, treatment methodology, treatment techniques and progress in medical records. Inputs scheduling data, updates initial follow-up and discharge notes, maintains records and contributes to reports, meeting the guidelines for recording in Minimum Data Set (MDS) and serves on various medical center committees as delegated. Performs other duties as assigned. The selectee at the GS-7 or 9 levels will perform work under close supervision of Chief, Recreation Therapy or designee.
NOTE #1: Incumbent may be required to rotate to various GLA sites as needed and must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Qualifications:
Basic requirement: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in recreational or in a creative arts therapy field (art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or psychodrama); or a major in appropriate subject-matter field with therapeutic emphasis or concentration
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
NOTE #2: Incumbent must have a valid driver’s licensed and be able to provide a record of driving history from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements listed above, applicants must possess the following: GS-7: One year of related graduate-level education or superior academic achievement; or one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service. GS-09: Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree; or one year equivalent to at least GS-7 in a Federal service. GS-10: Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or one year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9 level in the Federal service.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
