This position is located in the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration Office, in Anchorage, AK.

Selects, develops, guides, and supervises the technical and administrative activities of a staff of federal OSHA compliance safety and health officers (CSHOs) in the Anchorage Area Office. Plans, coordinates, and manages a comprehensive safety and occupational health compliance program in the Anchorage which covers private sector and other workplaces subject to federal OSHA's jurisdiction. Directs the performance of OSHA workplace inspections, and investigations of complaints, accidents, catastrophes, and fatalities to assure compliance with safety and occupational health standards and regulations. Determines seriousness of violations, types of citations, amounts of proposed penalties, and abatement periods that result from inspections/investigations. Conducts first level review conferences with employers and their legal representatives, and makes final judgments for modifying citations and penalties. Hears petitions for modification of abatement, enters into settlement agreements, and pursues appropriate legal processes to resolve cases. Provides compliance assistance, information and consultation/guidance to employers, employees, and others. Encourages and assists employers and employees to achieve voluntary compliance with OSHA standards and guidelines and to implement effective workplace safety and health programs. Conducts active liaison with local officials representing federal, state, employer and employee organizations, and other stakeholders, as the primary representative of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the state. In partnership with Alaska state executives and managers, monitors and evaluates the manner in which the state OSH (AKOSH) private and public sector enforcement programs contribute to the state's approved strategic and annual performance goals. Monitors and evaluates the manner in which AKOSH carries out activities mandated by the federal OSH Act. Prepares associated monitoring and evaluation reports.
