This position is located at the Wounded Warrior Battalion-West aboard Camp Pendleton, Ca.
Candidates selected for this position will serve as a Sports Specialist (Conventional Sports Coach) for HQ/MCCS.
Serves as a coach for conventional sports and provides expertise on techniques and training using knowledge of and familiarity with a wide variety of sports and related training to include: strength and conditioning, cycling, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, climbing wall, archery, marksmanship, golf, tennis, track and field, etc. Instructs and coaches beginners through advanced athletes according to their area of expertise in individual and team indoor/outdoor sports, including extreme sports.
Using supervision and direction from the Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) designs exercise plans, events, and sports. Develops individualized exercise plans according to patients limiting conditions and test results. Adapts exercises and sporting environments appropriately so Marine/Sailor patients can excel in sports activities. Educates Wounded Warrior Battalion (WWBn) Marines/Sailors in regards to their injury (ies) and training regimens and answers questions related to injuries and training. Responds to emergencies as they occur within the Warrior Hope and Care Center (WHCC) or at exercise/event settings.
Designs programs that build cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility into participant’s training sessions. Instructs Marines/Sailors in the proper and safe use of the various equipment and facilities available. Executes individualized activities, sports, and reconditioning programs using exercise plans generated by the supervisor.
Accompanies athletes to various competitions in the community and/or to more advanced competitions including Marine Corps Sports Trials, Warrior Athlete Reconditioning (WAR) Program training camps and Warrior Games. Monitors and controls environmental risks. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses any required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 45 lbs. independently, and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
