    About the Position:
    **A federal service incumbent (or an applicant who wishes credit for service to qualify based on federal service) who wishes to apply for a vacancy must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks of service at a grade no more than one grade lower (or equivalent) than the position to be filled prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. A candidate claiming credit for time in grade based on salary under NSPS (or other personnel system other than GS) must demonstrate in their resume Time-in-Grade eligibility and provide supporting documentation (e.g. copies of SF 50) with his/her application.**

    Responsibilities

    As District Counsel, you will be responsible for all phases of the legal program necessary to execute a major operating program for the Corps of Engineers consisting of planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance activities related to Civil Works and Military projects. Provides expert legal advice and assistance to the District Commander and his staff on complex legal matters involving policies, procedures, draft litigation, and contract issues pertaining to the work and activities of the District. Plans, directs and reviews work of subordinates for conformance to policy. Personally performs work related to the most complex, controversial or unprecedented legal cases. Serves as senior leader in the District, in support of Command policies and management initiatives, participation in strategic planning and corporate leadership matters.

    Occasional travel - Business travel may be required up to 20% of duty time
