    In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.

    The representative rate for this position is $79,386 per annum ($38.04 per hour).

    The incumbent, along with the Complex Captain, serve as an advisor to the Warden and their staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. As an advisor, his/her influence is reflected in all areas of institution management. Incumbent assists with the integration of these policies and procedures into the overall operations of the facility as well as the Correctional Services Department and keeps management advised of activities effecting institution programs.

    Incumbent assists in the planning, developing and administering of regulations which insure strict security and control of inmates in living quarters, work areas, and leisure time activities. Uses knowledge and insight to devise and implement new and improved security measures.

    As a member of many complex committees, incumbent contributes to and participates in meetings and conferences in which policies are formulated, decisions reached, budgetary matters discussed, and plans made for administrative operations.

    Assists the Complex Captain in analyzing custodial and security needs by determining the composition of correctional posts to maximize utilization of available resources. Assists in eliminating, redesigning or restructuring posts which are not essential or do not provide maximum utilization of assigned employees. Assists in identifying and defining additional staff and financial resources necessary to address constantly changing assignments and deadlines.

    Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
