This position is located in the Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Adminsitration, Pittsburgh Safety & Health Technology Center (PSHTC), South Park, PA. The PSHTC conducts in-mine studies to maintain the health and safety of miners; participates in accident investigations; assists in mine emergency operations; issues approvals for mine seal designs meeting established standards; reviews mining plans; and operates analytical and calibration laboratories in support of the MSHA enforcement programs.

Plans, directs, and administers major programs concerning the full range of electrical systems and equipment that affect occupational safety in the nation's mining and tunneling industries. Proposes and initiates a wide variety of electrical engineering studies and electrical systems investigations. Proposes and initiates reports, documentations, manuscripts, and publications relating to investigations and studies performed by the Division. Prepares, presents, and executes responsibilities for financial, administrative, and related management of the Division's operations. Chairs the MSHA's research review committee which develops MSHA's short and longrange electrical research policies and programs. Represents MSHA in a variety of governmental and non-governmental meetings and committees as a principle safety specialist, and a technical expert in the development of electrical power systems for the mining industry.
Supervises a group of professional and nonprofessional employees who provide engineering services in the areas of Power, Control Communications and Monitoring. Supervisory Electrical Engineer, GS-85O-14 Mine Electrical Systems Division Bruceton Safety Technology Center. Supervises and directs the activities of employees involved in investigating mine electrical systems and equipment; the conduct of applied research studies in mine electrical systems areas; and in the provision of consulting services to industry and other government agencies. Supervises and directs activities concerned with the administrative management functions of the Division. Ensures that the appropriate records are kept, estimates and plans are prepared, and that the Division accomplishes its activities within its operating budget. Ensures proper reporting procedures are followed on all personal and vehicle accidents. Incumbent assigns work, provides for or causes training; reviews completed activities for adequacy and accuracy, rates performance, approves leave, and performs all other supervisory responsibilities related to subordinate employees.
