Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. The incumbent serves as an audio visual archivist and, along with other members of the team, is responsible for planning, performing and monitoring all archival functions in all media, establishing work priorities, and ensuring that priorities and work assigned to the team are completed in compliance with NARA policies, standards, and procedures.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As an Archivist, you will:

  • Perform professional archival work in virtually all archival functions in the Library's extensive assortment of audio visual (AV) materials.
  • Utilize specialized equipment to digitize, review, redact (i.e. edit), reformat, and reproduce materials.
  • Plan and direct the arrangement of AV and photographic presidential records, federal records, and donated materials.
  • Independently provides reference service in response to regular and complex e-mail, phone, and written requests for information primarily regarding the Library's audio visual (video), photographic/still pictures, and audio tapes.
  • Provide information and assistance to other archival institutions and professionals on the preservation and handling of AV and photographic presidential records and historical materials.
  • Review audiovisual records and apply appropriate restrictions in compliance with the Presidential Records Act (PRA), the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and applicable executive orders. Recognize the complexity associated with applicability of multiple restrictions and recommend appropriate steps to address such complexity.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Utilizing archival principles in order to maintain and/or administer record keeping systems; AND
  • Designing and/or executing activities geared towards connecting researchers with audio/visual archival records (examples may include activities at every point of the archival life cycle: accessioning, processing, description, reference, digitization).; AND
  • Interpret and/or enforce policies and regulations regarding the use of records.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Utilizing various systems or databases to locate, analyze, index, and manage archival records; AND
  • Collaborating and participating in projects describing or preserving a body of audio/visual records; AND
  • Executing archival strategies, plans, and activities.
OR

EDUCATION:
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

OR

COMBINATION:
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Only education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) of graduate education is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

Basic Education Requirement


The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

OR

Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
