Summary

This position works within the 136 AW located in Fort Worth, TX. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise employees who install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions.

Duties

As a Electronic Intergrated Systems Mechanic Supervisor (Title 32) with the Texas National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Planning: Serves as section supervisor, exercising supervisory responsibility over assigned integrated systems repair and maintenance work operations. Supervises employees involved in the maintenance, repair, and modification of integrated multi-complex avionics systems. Plans use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities and materials. Establishes deadlines and priorities and work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Determines the sequence, priority, and time for the performance of operations within the limits of broad work schedules and time limits. Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors. Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. Informs higher level supervisors of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimate labor and other resources. Participates with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work.
  • Work Direction: Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes; implements corrective actions, within authority, to resolve work problems.
  • Administration: Supports and explains management programs to subordinates. Plans and establishes overall leave schedule. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinates work performance. Advises and counsels workers on how to improve their performance and explains new work techniques. Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates. Reviews job descriptions for accuracy and makes necessary changes. Investigates and resolves grievances and complaints; notifies supervisor of serious matters. Initiates proposals for formal disciplinary action as needed. Interviews candidates for vacancies and recommends selections. Ensures safety and housekeeping practices are observed. Carries out management objectives including labor-management relations, Equal Employment Opportunity, internal controls, safety, energy conservation, environmental controls, and property accountability. Maintains work reports and records.
  • Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Performs additional duties such as accident/mishap response, various shift supervision, special project management, heavy equipment operations, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG) and wear of the military uniform.

Area of Consideration: In-State Excepted. This includes:

  • All current members of the Texas Air National Guard, and
  • US citizens, US nationals or individuals who owe allegiance to the United States.

Qualifications

To be considered for qualification, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

Experience or training demonstrating the ability to repair, overhaul, rebuild, align, and adjust complete multi-systems such as the electronics package in a highly automated aircraft where target acquisition and tracking, weapons control, aircraft attitude control, navigation, and other complex functions are performed by numerous systems which are extensively interconnected with data feedback loops. Applies comprehensive knowledge of all major units of the complete multisystem, i.e., how they function independently, how they are interfaced in the integrated subsystems, and how the subsystems interact to achieve operating specifications. Able to determine proper sequence of operations and start point in sequential operations in order to pinpoint areas of malfunction. Extensive practical knowledge of the theories and practices of electromagnetic propagation, electronic circuits, computer theory, hydraulic or pneumatic control and power systems, and many other areas covering a wide range of system applications. Broad knowledge of the interactions among a number of closely integrated complex systems. Knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry, to calculate power relation ships, signal phasing, etc. Ability to interpret drawings for multisystem complexes such as the complete electronics package for an aircraft including numerous interconnections of signal paths both between and within individual subsystems of the multisystem complex. Ability to isolate malfunctions of complete multiple integrated systems consisting of closely interrelated fire control, bombing-navigation, flight control, countermeasures or similar systems and to determine the methods of repair where extremely complex relationships exist among numerous interconnected units and control circuits not only within the individual control systems but between them as well, requiring complete knowledge of all electronic, mechanical, and or optical systems and units. Performs on-equipment or off-equipment maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft, and/or maintenance on automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, inertial and radar navigation systems. In addition to the craftsman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
