SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the GS-05, you must possess one year of specialized experience that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal civil service; as it pertains to the management of designated parks and/or recreation areas and the conservation of natural and cultural resources. Examples of qualifying experience: Regularly patrolling outdoor areas and/or inspecting facilities to ensure visitor safety and administrative compliance; assisting in developing interpretative materials to distribute or present to diverse audiences; serving as a park aide and/or providing visitor assistance services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the Federal civil service (GS-04).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
