Summary

You will serve as a Wood Worker of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK.

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.

Duties

  • You will determine appropriate method of packaging.
  • You will pack various types of material and equipment in shipping containers, special boxes, and crates.
  • You will install interior fixtures and padding to cushion materials.
  • You will measure and cut lumber for non-standard, trussed, and other required items.
  • You will develop drawings and specifications to safely package odd or unusual shaped material and equipment.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform the full range of tasks, under normal supervision, as demonstrated by experience including planning, constructing and repairing custom and standardized shipping and storage containers of various shapes and sizes; documenting shipping and storage of materials; packing materials and equipment using appropriate materials; performing the blocking and bracing of materials; making and placing supports to prevent shifting during transit or storage; securing items for transport; using hand tools and handheld power tools; plan construction details based on past work and making minor changes in plans or patterns, as needed
