Summary
The purpose of the position is to perform a wide range of work involving installing and recognizing the cause of faulty refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and making repairs on large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating.

Duties
Duties:
- Inspect, monitor, repair, and maintain industrial air handling and air conditioning units throughout a large facility.
- Maintain and diagnose problems associated with Chiller Plant Operations. Perform repairs and maintenance of chiller plant systems.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and determine necessary repairs such as valves, compressors, motors, bearings, etc.
- Utilize basic principles and theories of air conditioning, refrigeration and pneumatic controls.
- Maintains such items as chillers, ice makers, ice dispensers, walk-in boxes, freezers, air handlers, exhaust fans, thermostats, fan coils, and VAV boxes.
- Maintains, repairs, installs, and modifies complex air conditioning, heating, and ventilation (HVAC) equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, replaces, repairs, and evaluates complex equipment for Air Conditioning systems.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning evaporators and condenser coils.
- Ability to read blueprints, specifications, operating procedures and repair manuals
- Inspect, monitor, repair, maintain and record chiller plant systems operations with minimal guidance from a supervisor.
- Maintaining an inspection log that details readings and problems that occur on the shift.
- Working with a variety of refrigerant gases.
- Uses initiative, making reliable test, measurements, and adjustments.
- Selects the appropriate equipment, tools, and materials, and laying out and planning the work and techniques for each assignment.
- Knowledge of the various components of the HVAC systems so that problems can be identified and repaired.
- Completes job and equipment maintenance records, assembles lists of materials and supplies needed for assigned work and drafts purchase request, assesses needs and writes clear work descriptions, and accounts for time and materials used

Physical Requirements: The work requires carrying of equipment, tools and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds. Most of the equipment can be reached from the floor or from ladders. Occasionally, platforms and scaffolding are needed to reach parts of the systems such as fans, electrical and water lines and duct work. The incumbent is required to stoop, stretch, bend, kneel and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
