    About the Position:
    These are temporary civilian faculty positions at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) as provided under Title 10 USC 4021 which may be hired as full time, part time, or intermittent. Initial appointment may be up to one year.
    The person(s) selected for this/these position(s) will have a leading role in teaching core and elective courses of the Resident Education Program and associated programs.

    Responsibilities
    • Develop lessons, teach, assess students in courses related to strategic uses of military power, theater-level military operations, senior military leadership, military history and strategy, and related subjects.
    • Engage in scholarship that advances knowledge in fields of the topics listed above or related topics.
    • Provide counsel to faculty and students on subjects related to history, military strategy and the application of military power in support of national security objectives.
    • Coordinate with and provide subject matter expertise to external agencies on behalf of the U.S. Army War College.
    • Engage in service (internal and external) in support of institutional missions with subject matter expertise related to history, military strategy, and the application of military power in support of national security objectives.
    • Serve as a faculty instructor for one seminar, faculty advisor for up to six students, and advisor for student strategy research projects.
    • Mentor junior faculty instructors and share expertise with peer faculty.
    • Support other academic programs at the U.S. Army War College, as needed.

    SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best- qualified candidates.

    1. Must have an established record of superlative teaching in subject matter related to military strategy, military history, and campaign design at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Experience as a teaching assistant and as the instructor of record meet this requirement. Experience at the Senior Service College level is preferred.
    2. Ability to conceptualize, design and prepare lesson plans for others to teach, facilitate seminar dialogue, lecture, guide student research, and assess student performance on subjects related to the topics listed above. Familiarity with military strategy, planning, and operations can come from extensive experience as a practitioner or as a teacher of those subjects.
    3.     Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

    The Army War College is the U.S. Army's most senior institution for professional military education. It educates the top echelon of U.S. military officers of all services, U.S. government civilians, and military officers from up to 80 foreign countries yearly. The Army War College develops strategic leaders by providing a variety of rigorous curricula of theoretical and professional subjects. Periodically, the College has need for one or more temporary instructors within the Department of National Security and Strategy. These instructors may teach either core or elective courses in support of the institution's mission: "Educate and develop leaders for service at the strategic level while advancing knowledge in the global application of land power."

    This position may be up to one year. Pay is based on mission requirement and academic qualifications. Salary may be pro-rated based on hours worked.
