Summary
This Position is located in Facility Management Service (FMS), Boise VA Medical Center. Boise, ID. The Electrician will be responsible for maintaining electrical system(s) at the various facility locations and the incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain a current driver's license.

DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
Duties
- Troubleshoot, repair and install all types of electric motors, valves and actuators, including single phase and multiphase motors. These motors may be AC and DC, may have horsepower ratings from a fraction to 50 HP, and voltage up to 460 volts.
- Troubleshoot, repair and install a variety of electrical equipment, including equipment belonging to Dietetics, Housekeeping and Engineering Shops; fans and blowers; some types of office and medical equipment; paging nurses call and intercom systems; and Boiler Plant controls.
- Maintain, repairs, and periodically tests 300 KVA emergency power generators including transfer switches, disconnects and uninterruptable power supply systems.
- Install and maintain secondary distribution systems up to 600 volts for indoor and outdoor lighting, power and equipment, including panel boards, switches, circuit breakers, conduit, wiring and fixtures.
- Inspects, cleans and repairs primary distribution systems up to 15 KV. The system includes motorized high voltage transformers ranging from 50 KVA to 500 KVA.
- Troubleshoot and repair multifunctional fire alarm components and systems throughout the station.
- Performs preventative maintenance on medical equipment, electrical appliances and electrical components of other systems as scheduled.
- Conducts electrical safety tests on equipment throughout facility such as Medical, Laboratory and shops.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, where parts of systems are in hard to reach places. There is heavy lifting involved with this position. Assistance is usually available for the handling of heavier material and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Incumbent must be capable of working inside and outside in excessive heat, cold, noise, confined areas, and on intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Incumbent may receive minor cuts or abrasions while performing these duties. Work can also require long periods of standing or sitting depending on the work scheduled by the M&R Supervisor.
Critical Skills Incentive: This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through October 8, 2024. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Electrician License Requirement: A current, valid state-issued Commercial Construction Electrical license (or equivalent) is required is required for this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Qualifying experience includes: working independently as an electrician; utilizing knowledge of electrical theory and National Electrical Code requirements; installing, modifying, repairing and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment; using instruments and tools common to the electrical trade; reading and following wiring diagrams and blueprints to install or repair electrical equipment; using a variety of hand and power tools; and utilizing testing equipment. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
