DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
Duties
Primary duties of this position are that of a journeyman electrician/elevator mechanic and include, but are not limited to the installation, maintenance and repair of:
- The incumbent is responsible for all maintenance and repairs on a variety of Elevators, Dumbwaiters, and Conveyors, including Hydraulic, Passenger High Speed, and Service High Speed;
- Diagnoses elevator operational problems by applying trade knowledge of control circuits;
- Repairs and maintains low speed elevator systems, dumbwaiters or leveling ramps;
- Performs regularly scheduled maintenance and repair in conjunction with a scheduled preventive maintenance program;
- Uses a wide range of test equipment, meters, monitoring devices, and special tools to accomplish all work in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and the American National Standard Safety Code;
- All primary electrical service, emergency/critical power circuits;
- Secondary circuits and controls, service equipment, emergency diesel generators and controls;
- Automatic bus transfer controls, fire alarm systems, communication systems, UPS systems, lighting systems, large and small appliances, and any equipment utilizing electrical power as a source of energy;
- The incumbent will troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems through the application of logic and sound engineering principles;
- Performs all electrical and allied work required or expected of a journeyman electrician;
- Incumbent must have an in-depth knowledge of the synergistic relationship of various electrical/electronic systems to support industrial and biomedical operations;
- Performs other electrical duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements: Must work from ladders in high places, and in manholes. Subject to hazardous conditions of the electrical trade, such as electrical shock or burns. Lifts, carries, pulls, steadies or otherwise moves elevator parts, chain falls, weight blocks, or tools weighing up to 75 lbs. May require kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, reaching over, under, and into equipment while in cramped or awkward positions. Requires extensive time on feet standing for long periods of time and walking.
