    TThe Electronics Systems Branch (ESB) at Langley Research Center is seeking a skilled individual to provide expertise in the design, programming and architecture definition of digital engineering including field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) for aerospace applications, such as measurement systems and instruments, technology demonstrators, motion control systems, for technology and flight projects.

    Responsibilities
    • Serve as the Discipline Lead and Subject Matter Expert and provide leadership, technical direction and guidance in design, programming and architecture definition of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technologies for aerospace projects.
    • Provide expert design and development efforts to produce new electronic systems or equipment that have a wide and far-reaching impact in the areas of digital design and development.
    • Perform complex design and programming of various FPGA in various hardware description languages, including Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and Verilog.
    • Design complex digital circuits for system command, data process and handling including the use of clock domains, timing constraints, digital signal processing, self-testing, embedded controllers, and digital communication protocols and interfaces.
    • Participate in testing and end-to-end performance analysis and verification of complex digital circuits, including those with embedded FPGAs.
    • Serve as a senior advisor on the most difficult design and technical issues and problems related to digital electronic systems for aerospace applications.
    • Recommend state-of-the-art electronic system and technology capabilities and designs and enhances ESB processes, procedures, and best practices in digital engineering.
    • Mentor other electrical engineers in FPGA architectures and design and programming techniques by managing any and all aspects of fostering and sustaining the specialty within the branch in support of Agency objectives.

    Qualifications
    In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

    To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level such as; providing expertise in architecting, programming, and simulating complex Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), and designing and testing complex digital circuits for a variety of test conditions, such as (i.e. temperature, pressure, end-of-life) to support electronic systems.

    Education

    You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.

    *Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

    Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
