    About the Position:
    This position is located at the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC).
    This is a Term position not to exceed 13 months with provisions to extend up to 8 years and to be made permanent without further competition.

    To be eligible for conversion to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment, you must have completed at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service and demonstrate successful job performance.

    Responsibilities
    • Maintains all fixed or semi-fixed industrial equipment and machinery including mechanical, hydraulic and/or numerically controlled machines by oiling or greasing.
    • Determines, from lubrication charts, where lubrication is needed, what types of lubrication are needed and types of lubrication that are correct for a given machine.
    • Drains, flushes and refills gear cases with fresh lubricant after specified (per lubrication chart) periods of time.
    • Cleans industrial equipment and production machinery that use water-soluble coolants.
    • Exercises caution to keep acids and caustic levels appropriate to avoid ruining resin beds.
    • Performs titration tests to check coolant concentrations.

    Experience:

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Equipment Lubrication and Repair Worker~ without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen-out element to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes: applying a variety of lubricants such as oils or greases to industrial equipment including mechanical, hydraulic and /or numerically controlled machines; Knowledge of coolants to operate an automatic coolant recovery system. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT:
    Spends considerable time standing or walking around work area checking equipment. Occasionally works in difficult positions while cleaning and maintaining equipment. Frequently handles objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds, occasionally carrying objects in excess of 50 pounds for considerable distances. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and climb for sustained periods of time.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Work is performed inside and outside areas that may have poor lighting and ventilation. Frequently exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, grease, oils, and cleaning agents. Subject to possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, and burns. Required to wear protective clothing (e.g., gloves, aprons, ear plugs, boots and face shields).
