    The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center consists of a parent site, located in Altoona, PA and 5 community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) located in DuBois, Huntingdon, Indiana, Johnstown & State College, PA. The medical center serves Veterans from a 14 county area in Central PA, providing exceptional health care in the areas of Acute Care, Behavioral Health, Diagnostic Services, Urgent Care, Long Term Care, Pharmacy, Primary Care, Social Services, Specialty Care & Women's Health.

    Responsibilities

    Duties: This is a part-time position located in the Nutrition and Food Services Department at the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center. The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Set up and replenish food service counters, steam tables, cold food tables with hot and cold food
    • Serve food cafeteria style
    • Prepare service stands by setting up condiments, silverware, and glassware for table service, set tables, serve tables by placing food and beverages on tables, and replenish as necessary
    • Deliver meal trays to the patient's bed
    • Prepare fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving
    • Cut lemons, prepare butter chips, open cans and portion out food
    • Make coffee, tea and other beverages
    • Pour juices and beverages
    • Make a variety of fruit and vegetables salads
    • Clean manual and electrical utensils utilized
    • Dispose of waste
    • Perform a variety of duties incidental to the maintenance and cleanliness of the area to which assigned
    • Wash dishes, pots and pans, either manually or by use of mechanical equipment
    • Disassemble, clean and reassemble dishwashing machine after use
    • Set up dining room for service, remove used utensils and dishes to dishwashing areas
    • Unload supply trucks and place supplies in proper storage areas, and bring supplies to work areas
    • Clean kitchen equipment, dining, and storage areas, office, hallways, and latrines
    • Wax and buff floors, maintain garbage collection areas, including lifting, carrying, emptying, cleaning and sanitizing garbage and trash containers
    • Perform other related duties as assigned
    Work Schedule: Rotating tours of duty, to include weekends and holidays, between the hours of 6:00pm - 7:00pm

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires light to moderate physical effort with continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. May be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large-size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. May also be required to work on ladders and user powered cleaning equipment.
