Duties

The incumbent will participate in conducting inspections and oversight of organizations involved in the shipment and transportation of hazardous materials, and prepares enforcement reports resulting from those activities. Completes inspection and investigative reports for entry into appropriate FAA databases. Prepares enforcement investigative reports, documenting findings derived from inspection activity and incidents. Responds to incidents involving air transportation of hazardous materials to conduct interviews, collect documentation, and secure evidence. Provides technical advice to industry personnel, assigned organizations, and the general public. Initiates outreach efforts to improve compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, 49 CFR regulations, and ICAO. The incumbent evaluates requests for exemptions from HazMat regulations from air carriers and shippers, and coordinates with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and other competent authorities as necessary. Reviews technical materials for air carriers as they relate to hazmat. Evaluates air carrier hazmat training programs for compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
