The primary purpose of this position is to Serve as a technical consultant to management on industrial hygiene evaluations of the work environment. Conduct health hazard evaluations and promote effective occupational health and safety practices throughout the wing and tenant organizations.
- Conduct surveys, evaluations and auditing to identify and evaluate potential occupational health hazards using knowledge of IH principles, concepts, and practices.
- Review regulatory requirements prior to conducting air sampling, and assess hazards; develop sampling strategies and apply recognized standards; help with or perform sampling using indirect and direct reading instruments to quantify hazards.
- Advise management on industrial hygiene issues, recommend actions to prevent or minimize health hazards, provide industrial hygiene input to risk management decision processes.
- Assist with reviewing and evaluating plans for new construction, alteration of facilities or for new processes.
- Assist in the planning and conducting sampling using various instrumentation and equipment.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include planning and conducting complete evaluations of work operations involving potentially hazardous environmental conditions, analyzes finding, and recommends corrective measures and controls.
OR have a master's or equivalent graduate degree
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree which provides you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position
OR have a combination of education and specialized experience.
GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or equivalent. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include evaluating chemical health hazards resulting from inhalation of vapors, fumes, mists, gases and dusts, or from skin contact; physical hazards, such as noise, heat or pressure above and below normal atmospheric; and ionizing and non-ionizing radiation; and environmental assessments.
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR have a combination of education and specialized experience
GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include directing and supervising the division. Responsible for the protective programs for workers are exposed to the wide variety of environment stresses including some for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood, including: chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic.
NOTE: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-12 level.
GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include experience which may have been gained by compounding of prescriptions of physicians, dentists, and other licensed practitioners; the formulation, preparation, bulk compounding, selection, dispensing and preservation of drugs, medicines, and chemicals; research and investigation in developing special vehicles or variations of standard formulas to meet the needs of individual patients and in developing original techniques of compounding and making available for use new investigational drugs; advising on drug therapy and usage; or performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work concerning the administration of a pharmacy program for hospital, clinic, or other medical care facility.
NOTE: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-13 level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, practices, and principles.
2. Knowledge and ability to recognize workplace and environmental factors and stresses associated with multifaceted work operations.
3. Knowledge and ability to use a wide range of industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation.
4. Knowledge and ability to conduct air sampling evaluations and assess the associated hazards.
5. Knowledge of all types of industrial hygiene measuring and sampling instruments and equipment and skill in their field calibration and
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
