Duties
- When required, assists higher level trades and crafts employee in accomplishing required repairs in maintenance work involving plumbing,carpentry and painting
- Maintains picnic and pavilion areas. Performs grass-cutting requirements using riding lawn mowers/ garden tractors, push mowers, edgers, chainsaws, blowers, weedeaters, pruners, etc. Applies fertilizer and chemicals as directed.
- Performs daily cleaning and policing of facilities and areas. Cleans public latrines, party pavilions, and other facilities. empties trash containers. Scrubs sinks, floors, and other fixtures. Picks up trash around the grounds.
- Assists in setting-up, maintenance, and take down of all special planned programs/events. Sets up and maintains recreation equipment such as water sprinklers, picnic tables, barbecue grills, park benches, playground equipment, trash containers, etc.
- Performs routine repairs and maintenance on park equipment such as painting, replacing hardware, boards, etc. Assist other personnel in the completion of other in-house maintenance/construction projects for the park.

- PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The incumbent may be required to lift and move objects frequently weighting 50 pounds or more. Heavier items (over 50 pounds) will be moved with weight handling equipment or with the assistance of other workers.
- The work will also require walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying, and bending.
- Operation of vehicles/equipment may require physical manipulation of gears, brakes, levers, and pedals.
- The incumbent must have the mental, physical (including dexterity), oral, and audio abilities at a level to assure the duties listed are performed in a safe and satisfactory manner.
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a variety of settings inside and outside, but primarily outdoors in heat, cold, and occasionally in bad weather.
- Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, fumes, noise, jolting, etc. while performing grounds maintenance duties.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
- Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities
- Must successfully complete a post Defensive Driving course and maintain a current valid drivers license.
Qualifications
Must have work experience directly related to the duties to be performed. Must be able to understand oral English and read and understand written instructions in English to assure safe and satisfactory performance (reading chemical labels, operating instructions, assignments, etc.).
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Have experience driving lawn tractors, and using tools and equipment normally found in maintaining grounds, facilities, and equipment.
Must have experience in operating the vehicles/equipment listed, performing operator's maintenance, and complying with safety and traffic rules and regulations.
Must have the ability to perform a variety of laborer, custodial, gardening, driving, and park maintenance duties with minimal supervision.
This incumbent must know how to spread fertilizer evenly to prevent underfeeding or burning of plants.
