Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

About the Position: This position is located within the Navy Branch Health Clinic in Mayport Florida under the DIR of Clinical Support, Lab/Clinical Pathology. The hours of operation are 8 hour shifts, M-F 0600-1800. The incumbent may be expected to occasionally work over-time.


This is a Direct Hire Solicitation using DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.

Duties

  • Collects patient samples when necessary.
  • Ensures timely distribution to laboratory sections of all specimens received.
  • Performs clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered.
  • Evaluates and interprets results to determine if data is complete and valid.
  • Performs and calculates manual cell counts.
  • Processes laboratory specimens for shipment.
  • Performs all required specimen preparations prior to storage and shipment.
  • Conducts necessary quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
  • Performs necessary laboratory periodic equipment checks.
  • Assists in training laboratory personnel, staff and students.
  • Routine Equipment Setup and Maintenance.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires a SECRET National Agency Check w/ Inquiries (ANACI) background check.
  • This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. A candidate selected to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an “on call” basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements Medical Technician:

Certificate: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.

AND

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level or equlivalent which includes performing complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment, and conducting quality control procedures and assisting in training laboratory personnel, staff and students and verifying correct procedures and quality control checks.

Education
