This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for the Emergency Nursing Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit and will report to the Supervisory Nurse onsite. Nurse performs care to assess acute and chronic conditions, recognize, identify and interpret serious situations; administer therapeutic measures; such as medication, intravenous fluids, etc.

- Assess patients presenting for emergency care and triages based on history, physical assessment and chief complaint.
- Provides comprehensive nursing care for acutely ill and/or critically ill patients.
- Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, treatments and maintains those measures taken which are ongoing in nature.
- Operates and monitors specialized equipment.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
Alternative Work Schedule: May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuity of patient care.

- Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
- Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below:
GS-07 Grade Level:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision; or
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or above). Examples of experience include: providing professional nursing care to patients, reviewing medical records and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures; or
- Possession of a diploma or associate degree in Nursing in Nursing program and two full year of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include: Experience in assessing clinical conditions, recognizing and identifying serious situations, prioritizing, and immediately using clinical judgement in deciding upon proper action, for example, to inform physician and take preplanned measures and/or consulting with charge nurse or preceptor when patient condition warrants. or
- Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.
GS-09 Grade Level:
- Possession of a Master's degree in Nursing; or
- At least one full year of Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate emergency room patient care plans.
GS-10 Grade Level:
- Possession of a Master's degree in Nursing; or
- At least one full year of Nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include preparing emergency room patients for and assist with examinations or treatments. Specialized experience managing the care of patients who present to the Emergency Department with a wide variety of problems ranging from non-urgent complaints to life-threatening emergent conditions. Experience in assessing the immediate needs of patients, prioritizing and organizing the plan of care from Emergency Department admission through discharge. Experience performing charge nurse and/or team lead responsibilities.Experience managing the care of patients who present to the Emergency Department with a wide variety of conditions ranging from non-urgent to life-threatening or emergent. Experience in assessing the immediate needs of patients, prioritizing care needs, working in a collaborative interdisciplinary team to address identified care needs of critically ill patients. Experience coordinating and organizing the plan of care from Emergency Department admission through discharge. Experience performing charge nurse and/or team lead responsibilities.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
