Duties

Meet the visiting public, providing general assistance and information concerning available facilities and recreational opportunities. Participate in education and outreach by assisting Park Rangers with special events.
Create positive connections with the visiting public through land and water patrols while actively promoting the USACE Water Safety program.
Perform a variety of duties involving the operation and maintenance of area facilities to include safety, security, and service inspections.
Assist in inspecting and reporting on trespasses, encroachments, and damages to Government property. Perform environmental stewardship tasks as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements Conditions of Employment

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Required to wear prescribed uniform.
Possession of or the ability to acquire a state driver's license.
Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
Ability to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project to which the employee is assigned.
Incumbent must receive a minimum of 24 hours of personal protection/unarmed self-defense, situational evaluation and tactical communication training within two years of employment.
Incumbent must possess or be able to acquire first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and blood-borne pathogen training.
May work on a boat which requires Corps of Engineers certifications/licenses to assist with safety patrols.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized and or education experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience GS-3: Six months of general experience which includes: serving as a park guide or tour leader; archeological or historical preservation work; forestry and/or fire management in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or work involving the development and/or implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; AND three (3) months of general experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of rules or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public.

OR

Education: One year of education above the high school level with six semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages.

General and/or Specialized Experience For GS-4: Three months specialized experience which includes serving as a park guide or tour leader; archeological or historical preservation work; forestry and/or fire management in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or work involving the development and/or implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; AND six months of general experience which includes general experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of rules or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public.

OR

Education: Two years of education above the high school level with twelve semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
