Responsibilities
You may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program. The Education Debt Reduction programs offers eligible applicants up to $200,000 (tax free!) for reimbursement of qualifying educational loans. Please contact Human Resources at this medical center and speak with the Education Debt Reduction Program Coordinator for additional information.
The duties and responsibilities of the Acute & Subspecialty Medicine Service Chief include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsibility over the following areas: hospitalist care in acute (inpatient) medicine, emergency department, cardiology, neurology, hematology/oncology, pulmonary/critical care, dermatology, infectious disease, rheumatology, and nephrology.
- Responsible for ensuring quality outcomes, veteran satisfaction and cost effective care in Acute Medicine/ICU/PCU, outpatient specialty care, specialty care labs (Cardiac/Respiratory/Sleep), and the Emergency Department.
- Responsible for all operations and supervision of personnel within the service; as a senior manager, accountable for service salary budget, overall management of the affiliated student and residency programs under the service line, as well as other graduate medical education fellowship affiliations, and all other budgetary items/controls and contractual arrangements.
- Clinical Care at no less than 40%
- Advocate for proactive research within the EKVA and in partnership with other VA and academic affiliates.
Primary tour of duty will be 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday; some of the clinical activities will occur outside VA administrative hours

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/10/2020.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine and/or Subspecialty care if appropriate to specialty
- Current practice in Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine, and/or Internal Medicine subspecialty
- Recent experience of 2 or more years leadership.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (35 lbs and over); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking (3 hours per day); standing (6 hours per day); kneeling (2 hours per day); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted).
