The Medical Service Mission is to lead satisfied staff dedicated to providing high quality patient centered care here at STVHCS, a great tertiary training and research Veteran's Hospital. This position supports this mission through administrative dependability, direct patient care, and support of their Section's educational and research activities. This is a part time position with full time potential.

This is a part time position with the ability to increase to a full time position. The current part time hours being offered are up to 35 hours weekly and 70 hours bi-weekly.
In addition to observance of Federal national and local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this Health Care System, this position encompasses the following examples of responsibilities overseen by their Section Chief. Staff physicians require appropriate time mapping and resources to ensure they are empowered to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practice, education, and research.
- Clinical Duties:
- The staff Cardiologist is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All physicians must meet the following qualifications:
- Systems-Based Practice: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care.
- Professionalism: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients, their profession
- Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
- Clinical Judgment: To ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
- Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
- Patient Care: Practitioners are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
- Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision.
- Research Duties (if applicable)
- Researchers are responsible for oversight of any research staff that they supervise.
- Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.
- Administrative Duties:
- Clinical Management including indirect patient care: open encounter & open consult management, CPRS documentation rules and requirements, adherence to clinic procedures for patient scheduling & access, ensuring staff productivity, oversight of relevant performance measures, and participation in the development of the new focus on the Medical Home and Patient Centric Care, Utilization, Quality, and Patient Safety oversight, process improvement (system redesign)
- Time/Leave Management: Adherence to tour of Duties, timely requests for leave in VISTA and for clinic cancellations
- Staff Management: Participate in the FPPE/OPPE process. Adheres to employee health requirements. Participate in Clinical Pertinence Reviews (routine medical record reviews)
- HR: Maintaining VA training requirements, timely completion of documentation and upkeep of credentials required for privileging and re-privileging
- Leadership responsibilities: participation in staff meetings, hospital committees, and peer review process. Demonstrate effective communication both down to staff and up to leadership, to include heads up (for acute patient bad outcomes) and issue briefs, acting as Section Chief when the Section Chief is on leave

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

- Applicants must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training.
- Must have experience with adult patients.
- Must be board certified in Cardiology by the ABIM. Active Patient Care Duties in Cardiology
- Experience Teaching/Evaluating Internal Medicine Residency or Fellowship Program.
- Experience in admissions and acute care procedures.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
- Active Patient Care duties in Outpatient and Inpatient Cardiology Setting within the last 2 years.
- Evidence of, form of scholarly activity (Poster/Meeting Presentation/Educational Lectures/Equivalent)
- Position includes academic duties/supervising residents and med students
