The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, a teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University, is recruiting for a part-time Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist will provide general outpatient psychiatric treatment and acute inpatient psychiatric treatment as needed to an adult psychiatric population with diverse diagnoses, including major affective disorders, psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), and substance use disorders. Major duties and responsibilities include:
- The Psychiatrist will work in the Inpatient Medical and Surgical Care Units and the Psychiatric Observation and Assessment Center based at our Wade Park Campus.
- Providing psychiatric assessment and treatment as needed to an adult population with diverse medical and surgical diagnosis with co-morbid psychiatric disorders including major affective disorders, psychotic disorders, post traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), substance use disorders and personality disorders.
- Providing diagnostic assessment/evaluation and therapeutic interventions, treatment planning, psychiatric medication management, substance abuse counseling, monitoring of clinical response to treatment, liaison with the primary care team, adjustments in levels of care as necessary and other specialized as required.
- Providing inpatient psychiatric consultation assessment and evaluations of patients admitted on medical and surgical floors, including intensive care units, short term unit and spinal cord injury units.
- Providing outpatient and inpatient psychiatric consultation and liaison to hematology, oncology and palliative care patients. Providing psychiatric consultation to hematology and oncology patients at the infusion center.
- Performing psychiatric assessment and evaluation of patients in psychiatric emergency room.
- Assessing patients for admission to Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Incentives: Possible signing bonus, relocation assistance, and student loan repayment up to $120K for eligible debt.
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend.

Conditions Of Employment

The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Experience with a wide range of adult psychopathology, including substance use disorders, psychosis, mood and anxiety disorders and PTSD.
- Board Certified in General Adult Psychiatry.
- Board Certified or Eligible for Psychosomatic Medicine.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
