    As a Physician you will:

    • Serves as the Program Director and/or CDC Country Director or Special Advisor.
    • Develop and direct the implementation of special initiatives funded Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)supported activities in assigned overseas location.
    • Be involved in all technical areas of interest, in the assigned overseas location, strategic information and epidemiologic surveillance and health economics, systems and capacity development.
    • Oversee all program staff assigned to the overseas location.
    • Provide oversight and accountability for the utilization of US Government resources allocated to the assigned overseas location.
    • Represent program on the US Government interagency team.
    • Direct the program's provision of strategic technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and other partners.
    • Maintain productive technical collaborations with all institutions engaged in program activities, including the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organizations, universities, medical institutions and other partners.

    Qualifications
    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
    Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) http://www.ecfmg.org/, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
    • An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
    • A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
    • A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
    Additional Qualifications:
    In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications, applicants must also meet the following for a Physician, GP-15.

    For GS-15: Five years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
    Experience: Applicant must possess at least one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal Service which is directly related to the position and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience directing scientific, technical and programmatic medical activities to originate new techniques, establish criteria, or develop new information.

    FOREIGN MEDICAL EDUCATION: Foreign Medical Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements.     CDC Financial Disclosure -OGE Form 450 Holding ourselves to a higher standard; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention inspires public confidence in its trust responsibilities and mission by maintaining high ethical principles. This position is subject to the confidential financial disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521). Therefore, if selected, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to determine if a conflict or an appearance of a conflict exists between your financial interest and your prospective position with the agency. This Information will be required annually.

    Overseas Assignments: Overseas assignments are for two years. The assignment may be extended based on the needs of the agency.

    • These positions may be eligible for special pay allowances (e.g., post differential, housing, relocation, market pay, etc.).
    • Immunizations are required and will be administered by the CDC before relocating overseas.
    • To work overseas for the CDC, the selectee will need to obtain security and medical clearances before being cleared to report to the overseas duty station. Continued employment will be subject to submission of all documentation necessary to obtain the medical and security clearances (including documentation for any accompanying dependents), within thirty (30) business days and obtaining the security clearance within six (6) months of the initial appointment. Please note the inability to secure the clearances necessary for overseas duty will result in termination of the appointment to the position.

    • Current permanent status CDC employees will be processed using a Term appointment. The selectee will not have statutory return rights.
