    Duties Summary

    This position is located in the Buildings and Grounds Section of the PHS Indian Hospital, Eagle Butte, SD. The purpose of this position is to perform general maintenance and repair of grounds water supply and sprinkler systems, building plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation, heating (low pressure boilers) and refrigeration. The position is that of a journeyman plumber. A valid state driver's license is required.

    • Performs repair and limited fabrication of plumbing systems.
    • General maintenance and repair of grounds water supply and sprinkler systems, building plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation, heating and refrigeration.
    • General maintenance duties.
    • Repair gas leaks in natural gas and liquid propane gas distribution systems replacing regulators, valves, fittings and meters.
    • Lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds.

    This position is an "On Call" position with alternate work schedules. May be called back to duty during normal off-duty times if situations and/or emergencies warrant on site assistance, which includes being on the "Call Back" schedule.

    Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation.     BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
    WG-4206-9 Following simple oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing plumbing tasks in making repairs, installing, and modifying of pipelines, including sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, and showers. (Screen out element)

    Candidates for this position will evaluated under the Federal Wage System (FWS) Job Grading Standards. Applicants will be rated in the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.     Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
