  • Duties



    The position is located within the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration {PHMSA) in the headquarters office. The program analyst is responsible for research and analysis pertaining to the risks associated with the transportation of hazardous material.

    The ideal candidate for this position is a mid-level professional with a strong analytical background with experience working on complex regulatory and organizational issues.  This individual has the ability to identify, interpret and verify data from disparate sources and complete studies to gather additional information.  Furthermore, the ideal candidate would have experience utilizing risk management principles, implementing quality management systems, and performance measurement systems.  The candidate’s strong oral and written communication skills are used to disseminate complex information to decision makers.

    As a Program Analyst (Risk Management), you will:

    • Assist in the development of recommendations on hazardous materials transport that are consistent with technical and commercial market place conditions.
    • Make presentations and provide technical information on a variety of questions in the employee’s area of expertise.
    • Analyze data and assess risk, working on in-house studies of the hazardous materials safety program to identify risk and to recommend mitigating measures.
    • Contribute to models to identify trends, forecast future incidents and analyze the effectiveness of PHMSA’s hazmat programs.
    • Participate in or assist in briefings with PHMSA, DOT or other government staff.
    • Assist in preparing comprehensive reports of hazardous materials program performance.
