Duties
All duties of an Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (ATSS) are tied to maintaining safe and efficient operating capacity of the vast and complex network or electronics systems required for the world's largest air traffic control and navigation system. ATSS personnel install, evaluate, maintain, modify and certify facilities, services and equipment that support the National Airspace System (NAS). Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following coordination, operation, repair, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, flight check, certification, and documentation activities on all or some of the following discipline specific systems and services such as: Environmental: Lighted Navigational Aids Systems, Industrial Engine Generators, Industrial Systems, Industrial Power Sources/Power-Conditioning Systems, Central Control Monitoring System, and Industrial Electronic Controls Systems. HVAC, Fire Alarm System and Electrical Knowledge. Radar: Airport Surveillance Radar, Air Route Surveillance Radar, Air Traffic Control Beacon Indicator, Mode Select Beacon, Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Terminal Doppler Weather Radar, Weather Service Processor, Weather Display System, and Identified Friend or Foe. Weather: Automatic Terminal Information System, Automated Weather Observing System, Integrated Terminal Weather System, Low Level Wind Shear Aircraft Control and Navigation, and Distance Measuring Equipment. Navigational Aids: Instrument Landing Systems, Very-high Frequency Omni Directional Ranges, Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Directional Ranges, Tactical Aircraft Control and Navigation, and Distance Measuring Equipment. Communications: Motorola, ITT or General Dynamics radios, Radio Communications Link Repeaters, low Density Radio Communications link Repeaters, various voice switches, Tower Data Link Services, voice recorder systems, and UHF/ VHF/SATCOM. Automation: En Route Automation Modernization, Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System, Oceanic Display and Planning environment, industrial system diagnostics in the corporate environment, and industrial Local Area Network Wide Area Network systems in the corporate environment.

Qualifications
Group Coverage Standard for Administrative and Management Positions in conjunction with the Individual Occupational Requirements for DOT/FAA Airway Transportation Systems Specialist, FV-2101. QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-F LEVEL BASED ON WORK EXPERIENCE: Applicants must document 3 years of full-time (40 hours per week) general work experience that provided a basic knowledge of the principles of electronics, mathematics, computers, aeronautics, or related areas, or an understanding, both theoretical and practical, of automated systems operation, integration, management, and maintenance. Experience may have been gained in occupations such as computer specialist, electronics technician, telecommunications specialist, engineer, or other work related to this position. OR Education: full 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to this position, OR at least 24 semester hours in of these fields or in any combination of the following: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to this position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combination education and experience may be qualifying for this position. QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-G LEVEL BASED ON WORK EXPERIENCE: Applicants must document 1 year of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the next lower level, that demonstrates an extensive knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory; aptitude for solving mathematical problems (algebra, trigonometry); knowledge and ability to use tools, materials, and various types of specialized test equipment for the maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment/systems and experience in the technology, system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation, and electronics systems OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M.; if related. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combination education and experience may be qualifying for this position. Applicants should include examples of Specialized Experience in their work history.
