Recreation Specialist (Program Coordinator)
This position is located at the Outdoor Recreation Center, bldg. 973, with the 35th Force Support Squadron.
The incumbent is responsible for the complete development of all planned programs within Outdoor Recreation.
This is a flexible category position; guaranteed 0 hours per week, but may work up to 40 hours a week (depending on the needs of the facility).
Responsible for planning and conducting recurring patron activities such as; alpine skiing, cross country/touring skiing, backpacking, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, hunting/fishing and other customer or outdoor director desired programs. Plans, organizes, schedules, and coordinates operational risk management for trips and classes. Independently, serves as subject matter expert by demonstrating and instructing participants in the use of all outdoor activity equipment use and safety. Provides guidance and leadership for various recreation/leisure activity programs. Performs a wide variety of administrative work such as preparing after action reports, receiving and responding to customer critiques, comments or complaints.
May be required to provide additional outdoor recreation information and assistance to help patrons with selecting any furthering interests in additional recreational programs. Required to drive a GOV to drive 14 passenger van with trailer and operate up to 10,000 lb vehicle w/trailer. Must be able to work an uncommon tour of duty (evening, weekends, and holidays). Performs other duties as deemed necessary by program director.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicant must have practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedures in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned. Must have experience in implementing/evaluating adventure programs with a working familiarity and knowledge of the procedures followed in leading and organizing group outdoor recreational activity programs. Current certifications and qualifications in recreational activities to include; alpine skiing, backpacking, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, camping, biking, rock climbing, etc. preferred. Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in various extreme weather conditions. Must possess/maintain CPR/First Aid certifications. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to satisfactorily complete pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug test. Must possess valid driver's license and 4EJ. Must satisfactorily complete Tier 1 background check.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
