    This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB). to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

    About the Position: Serves as a senior safety and occupational health specialist responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of safety and health projects and programs.

    • Plan, organize, implement, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of safety and health projects and programs.
    • Prepare, review and evaluate the safety need of assigned operations in accordance with established standards, regulations and policies.
    • Develop occupational safety criteria, guidelines, etc., affecting many varied and complex organizational, occupational, and subject matter areas.
    • Perform inspections and survey to assure compliance with safety requirements.
    • Investigate and analyze accidents and incidents causing injury or property damage and all hazardous conditions that may cause serious injury or death.
    • Conduct safety training classes to ensure that personnel are aware of hazards and accident prevention.
    • Provide on-site safety support to installation for various missile launches, flight and recovery test programs.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing and implementing safety programs in organizations that operate in a testing environment (Explosive Safety, Radiation Safety, Aviation Safety, Range Safety, System Safety, and/or Chemical Agent Safety) accident prevention and control, safety education, accident investigation, reporting and analysis in compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
