The Suicide Prevention Program (SPP) is focused upon the full implementation of VA's National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide and the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense (VA/DoD) Clinical Practice Guideline for Assessment and Management of Patients at Risk for Suicide. The Suicide Prevention (SP) Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator (CEPC) position focuses upon connecting, developing, and coordinating community-based suicide prevention efforts for the OGJVAMC and its CBOCs. The Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator (CEPC) serves as a content matter expert for community-based suicide prevention and facilitates integration of suicide prevention education throughout the community.
Major Duties include:
- Implements VHA Community-Based Interventions for Suicide Prevention.
- Oversees outreach to educate community partners, the media, VA and other stakeholders to enhance the development of suicide prevention coalitions.
- Develops and coordinates graphics requirements, including databases, tables and spreadsheets to complement communications materials.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive suicide prevention communications plan.
- Works with OGJVAMC Public Affairs Officers, VHA Communications and external VA partners to plan, develop and disseminate suicide prevention outreach communications to enhance the work of community coalitions.
- Through proactive communication strategies, promotes partnership development including meeting with prospective community partners and/or establishing formal relationships between the VHA and local partners to facilitate suicide prevention in the community.
- Develops and provides suicide prevention related media/marketing, including interviews, social media postings, and communication campaigns.
- Provides a variety of suicide prevention trainings.
- Hosts Outreach Awareness Tables on suicide prevention at community events
- Develops, facilitates, and strengthens Community-Based Interventions for Suicide Prevention.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in public health and suicide prevention.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships between the VA suicide prevention team and community-based veteran organizations and leadership
- Develops materials and training programs.
- Develops and maintains content expertise in SP through peer review, networking, internet access, published literature, national conference calls, and educational offerings and professional meetings.
- Promotes and utilizes evidence-based guidelines at all stages of program development and implementation.
Work Schedule: 08:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday with evening and weekend on call duties on a rotational basis as well as evening and weekend hours if/as needed for community event participation.

Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/
English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must meet the following grade requirements.
GS-12 Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Experience includes the Social Worker being administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to patients in a major specialty. They may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typically provide direct patient care services in the program area. They manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. They may be responsible for the program's budget.
In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all the following KSAs:
- Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
- Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
- Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
- Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
- Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
Physical requirements. The work is primarily sedentary. Physical demands do not exceed those of a typical office setting. There may be some walking, standing, twisting, turning, sitting, pushing, bending, repetitive keyboarding, or carrying of light items. The work requires extreme patience and controlling of emotions.
