    About the Position: This position is with the US Army Installation Management Command, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization & Security, Training Division, Range Branch, Range Maintenance Section, located in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

    • Install, operate, maintain, and repair a variety of target systems and components of systems such as hard-wired data controlled, radio controlled, and battery operated radio controlled mechanical target systems.
    • Operate computer controlled target systems console and execute scenario sequences for operations.
    • Conduct operator level maintenance on stationary and moving infantry targets, and stationary and moving armor targets.
    • Operate and maintain vehicles assigned to the organization.
    • Clean in and around target pits, reshape target berms, service batteries and target devices, and remove debris from ranges and training areas.
    • Perform basic carpentry work as required.

    • This position is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover a continuous 24 hour a day, 7 days a week range operation.

    POSITION IS ANNOUNCED AS A STANDING REGISTER (OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT): First cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be June 30, 2020 at 11:59 PM.     Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target Systems Worker (MVO)~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: perform common tasks on a computer system; perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on equipment. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    Physical Effort: Make repairs and installations from ladders, trenches, and hard to reach places. Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to perform assignments. Frequently lifts and carries equipment and parts that weigh up to 45 pounds.

    Working Conditions: Work primarily outside, in dirt, dust, mud, windy and cold/hot weather. Is occasionally exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns. Is required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and SOP's. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to chemicals when handling batteries used in operating remote controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, and electrical shock. Simulators contain explosive charges equivalent to a 1/4 pound charge of TNT. Gun Fire simulator requires charging compressed gasses (oxygen) and flammable gasses (propane).

    Fort McCoy is located in a good rural area, between Tomah and Sparta. The area offers commendable schools and reasonable housing costs situated between two major interstates. Fort McCoy has an excellent Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program. Activities open to employees include the Whitetail Ridge Recreation Activity (ski hill, tubing and other winter sports), a fitness center with Olympic-size pool, saunas etc. and Pine View Recreation Area with an RV/camping park.
