About the Agency

This position is located in the Front Office of Bureau South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA). The purpose of this position is to analyze and execute a wide variety of the bureau's Travel services. The incumbent of this position primarily serves as a Travel Management Specialist, and backs up the Front Office Management Specialists as needed.

This position is eligible for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).


The primary duties include:

  • Booking of new and proposed travel, advising principals on possible routing and travel plans, collecting receipts and filing vouchers; understanding travel policies and regulations to determine impact, development, and/or modification of administrative policies.
  • Developing or modifing bureau-specific guidance in response to the State Department and other U.S. government travel policies and regulations; reviews regulatory and policy issuance; assesses impact on programs and recommends appropriate compliance actions to management; develops strategies for effective management of the travel program and related issues.
  • Ensuring that employees comply with payment requirements on Government travel card accounts and that the cards are being used for official expenses only.
  • Collaborates with the SCA/EX office, State Department travel office, SCA missions, and other travel and budget authorizing personnel. Participates in the development of new, improved, and/or streamlined travel procedures to include a comprehensive automated travel system.
