Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an 3rd Mate (Hopper Dredge) without more than normal supervision. Your resume must demonstrate that you have the ability to perform basic navigational bridge operations; and/or experience standing watch; and/or experience directing dredging operations in accordance with navigation roles and regulations. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Licensing/Certification (Selective Placement Factor): In addition to meeting the experience requirement of this position, applicants:
- Must possess a valid United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC) endorsed with a license as Third Mate of Self-Propelled Vessels of Unlimited Tonnage Upon Oceans.
- Must possess a Standard of Training/Watchkeeping (STCW) endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational watch or higher.
- Must possess a valid Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC).

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light effort is required for continuous standing and operating of various controls while on watch.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends most of time in wheelhouse. Occasionally goes outside in all kinds of weather to attend to certain duties, being exposed to the elements and subject to slipping on wet decks. Danger of drowning exists in case of accident.
