Duties

On a regular and recurring basis, leads three or more aircraft mechanic subordinates in performing all phases of repair and reclamation on aircraft systems and equipment, utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.

Monitors work of assigned personnel, sets the work pace, conveys work assignments, and assures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available. Coordinates and works with aircraft mechanics, and performs journey level work as required.

Assures that assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished in accordance with established time frames and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions, appropriate technical orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Assures that safety, housekeeping, security, and other environmental rules are followed.

Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). As requested by the supervisor, provides functional planning for the inspection docks. On a daily basis, recommends adjustments in work schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of functional requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • MILITARY GRADE REQUIREMENT: Due to the nature of this position, the minimum military grade is Technical Sergeant (TSgt/E6) and the maximum military grade is Master Sergeant (MSgt/E7).
  • DESIRABLES: Specific Experience, Letter of Recommendation.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled and which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.

WL-10 - Must have at least 24 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Resume must have complete dates and hours worked per week for each occurrence of both civilian and military employment (Example: 2 JAN 1980 to 3 MAR 1981; 0800-1630 M-F or JAN 1980 to MAR 1981; 40 hrs/wk) Use of year only will result in disqualification. The duties listed must fully substantiate -in your own words- that you meet the minimum requirements and specialized experience listed above, in detail; otherwise, you will not be considered qualified for this position.

Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Your experience will be evaluated on the basis of duties performed. Your record of experience and/or training must show possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position:

- Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of aircraft systems and assemblies. Knowledge in determining when new assemblies and/or systems should be installed, or repairs made through replacement with new parts or components. Knowledge of the types and extent of mechanical adjustments and alignments. Skill in removing, replacing, and adjusting various systems and assemblies, as well as associated components and parts. Knowledge and skill in using heavy equipment to lift and/or move aircraft and equipment. Knowledge and skill in using technical data, schematics, common hand tools, jigs, templates, and gauges.

Additional information

- The National Guard is exempt from the Veterans Preference Act. Submission of a copy of your DD-214 is not required unless you are hired for technician position.
