Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s).
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.
4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.
5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.
6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves moderate to strenuous physical exertion, necessitating the ability to perform a variety of tasks that include climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, and standing for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. This position frequently requires lifting parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds, with the possibility of occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds with the aid of mechanical devices or assistance. Safe handling of heavier items exceeding 40 pounds may be required, alongside the ability to carry loads ranging from 15 to 44 pounds, thus necessitating adherence to safe lifting techniques and ergonomic practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent operates in a variety of environments, including hangar areas, outdoor settings, and on parked aircraft, exposing them to potentially hazardous noise levels typical of an aviation maintenance facility. The work entails frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, ranging from intense heat to severe cold, as well as inclement weather conditions. These factors necessitate appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols to mitigate risks.
???????The position requires the ability to work in confined spaces, including within aircraft fuselages or tight compartments, often in awkward positions that necessitate flexibility and physical stamina. Responsibilities include handling materials that may pose health risks, such as dirt, grease, aircraft fluids, oils, hydraulic fluids, solvents, and hazardous materials including Hydrazine and Halon. Proper training in hazardous materials handling and compliance with safety regulations is essential.
